"The power of a t-shirt: A t-shirt is a small billboard to share your stance. An organic t-shirt keeps destructive chemicals out of the ground. A t-shirt is a tool for an organization to raise money and to promote its cause. A t-shirt can spark change."

EcoJoia [ē-kō-jȯi-yä]
Eco - ecological, environmental, an interest in the Earth's natural environment.
Joia - Portuguese for "jewel".

Mission
Our mission at EcoJoia is to support the merchandise needs of environmental and humanitarian non-profit organizations, with the goal of increasing their fund raising capabilities and simultaneously spreading cause awareness. We also believe in selling products made from environmentally conscious materials such as certified organic cotton and earth-friendly dyes and screen printing, wherever possible. See the Suppliers page to learn more.

EcoJoia Fund
EcoJoia carries non-organization specific products in which 20-50% of the sell price goes into the EcoJoia Donation Fund. This fund is donated quarterly to an organization of our choice. EcoJoia is currently making donations to the Kiva organization in the form of micro-loans. Micro-lending is a proven method for lifting motivated people out of poverty and enabling them to help themselves. Micro-lending can lead to great economic and social impacts, including increases in health care and decreases in violence and child birth rates for developing countries. Click here to learn more about Kiva. See the EcoJoia News Blog to see the projects we are supporting with the EcoJoia Fund merchandise sales.

How it works
EcoJoia acts as a partner with specific organizations and provides a web-based store of merchandise marketed for that organization’s needs and causes, which interfaces directly with the organization’s website. We then sell the products and donate a high percentage of the sell price directly back to the partnering organization. To contact EcoJoia, LLC about a partnership, please email partner@ecojoia.com.

How it began
Written by EcoJoia Co-Owner Julia
"The seeds for EcoJoia began in 2008. I had just come home from several months of travel and was trying to figure out how to fill the blank page of my life as a 'mid-20-something'. My dad approached me with the idea to start a business together that we could both feel good about. I mulled over possibilities for a while and wound up getting a job to pay the bills. Several months later I had the amazing opportunity to attend the 2009 Sundance Film Festival with the team from a little documentary called "The Cove." I was invited by my dad who had been involved with the organization featured in the film, Save Japan Dolphins. I had no idea what the film was about and was really along for the fun of Sundance. After a weekend hanging out with the people involved in The Cove, I attended the premiere. 90 minutes later my jaw was on the floor. The Cove was the most moving and compelling documentary I had ever (and still have ever) seen.

"Back in Denver two days later, I just couldn't shake the Sundance weekend and it struck me 'why don't we create a charity bracelet to raise money for the Save Japan Dolphins campaign?' A couple of phone calls to my dad and Save Japan Dolphins and the project was in full force. With the help of my brother, I spent the next 4 months designing the Save Japan Dolphins Bracelet, the website, and t-shirts/hats to support the cause. July 1, 2009 we launched the website and EcoJoia has snowballed from there. We have since added 4 more partner organizations and a full social media roster. My brother has since joined forces with me as a full business partner and we hired interns fresh out of school from the Colorado State University Design and Merchandising program. We are looking to find out just how far we can take EcoJoia, and how powerful the cause-driven t-shirt/charity bracelet idea can really be!"
